Dr. Amy P. Opfell is the Assistant Medical Director and Director of Anesthesia at Newport Bay Surgery Center. A California native, Dr. Opfell graduated from the University of Southern California and received her medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. She had all her clinical clerkships at the University of California at Irvine. Dr. Opfell completed her anesthesia residency at Baystate Medical Center, an affiliate of Tufts School of Medicine. Her last six months of residency were dedicated to Intensive Care Medicine. Upon completion of her training and board certification, Dr. Opfell became a clinical instructor of anesthesia at Harvard Medical School. While in Boston, she was on staff at the Beth Israel Hospital, with an emphasis on Neurosurgical and Thoracic anesthesia. Dr. Opfell is nationally recognized for her expertise in management of the difficult airway, teaching at the American Society of Anesthesiology for 10 years. Dr. Opfell returned to her native Southern California and has been in private practice of anesthesia, specializing in outpatient surgery.
